6 Months

Some said we were crazy, some asked if they could come along, some said we would be back in a few weeks others said we would never come back at all. The ones in our life that we love and admire the most said we are praying for you, follow your dreams and have the time of your life.

It’s hard to believe that we are six months into the journey of a lifetime. A dream journey that has been filled with eighteen hour bus rides, forty eight hour train rides, sleeping in bus stations and eating at train stations. We’ve been through 11 different countries and have dealt with just as many currencies. After 6 months if you asked us if we would do it again the answer would be an overwhelming yes. Nothing can ever take away the feeling of teaching a 2 year old in Kenya how to hug, telling a student in Uganda that he has a future when everyone else said he didn’t or sitting with peasant farmers in Turkey sorting through pumpkin seeds.

Kids in Africa smile and play just the same as those in India – men and women go to work to make a living in Egypt just as they would in Thailand. How is it that we are all the same but different? It’s not the Taj Mahal, Great Pyramids or African Safari that we will remember the most. What will stick in our hearts and minds for a lifetime are the people that we have met and lifelong friends we plan to keep in touch with. All around the world we have friends. Even if just for a brief interaction we have been treated with love no matter where or what kind of situation we found ourselves in. One main goal on this trip was to Love people as Jesus had loved. At the end of the day – is it us who had been loved and showed how to love?

Six months in or five months to go? Yet to visit, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia or Fiji my prayer is that we take in these last five months with the same gusto we did the first six. The kids in Thailand are sure to capture our hearts next month. For now it’s about getting Amy well so we can get out of this Hospital and continue on the journey.

Congrats on 6 months! It’s a great milestone, and given the recent challenges you’ve faced not an easy one. Kudos to you guys!
